Meeting No. 15

Wednesday, November 23, 2011

The Standing Committee on Industry, Science and Technology met in camera at 3:32 p.m. this day, in Room 8-53, 131 Queen Street, the Chair, David Sweet, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Peter Braid, Guy Caron, Cheryl Gallant, Mike Lake, Hélène LeBlanc, Phil McColeman, Hon. Geoff Regan, Lee Richardson, David Sweet, Glenn Thibeault and Philip Toone.

Acting Members present: Brian Storseth for John Carmichael.

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Mathieu Frigon, Analyst ; Dillan Theckedath, Analyst.

The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.

It was agreed, — That Guy Caron be elected First Vice-Chair of the Committee.

It was agreed, — That, pursuant to Standing Order 108 (2), the Committee undertake a study of the Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics and examine:

• the positive effects the Institute has on the greater Kitchener/Waterloo region; and

• the positive effects the Institute has on the science, technology and advanced research in Canada and the world.

It was agreed, — That, pursuant to Standing Order 81(5), the Committee considers the Supplementary Estimates (B) 2011-2012 under INDUSTRY, and that the Committee invite departmental officials to attend a two-hour meeting on Wednesday, November 30, 2011.

At 4:15 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
