The Standing Committee on Human Resources, Skills and Social Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities met in a televised session at 3:33 p.m. this day, in Room 253-D, Centre Block, the Chair, Ed Komarnicki, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Marjolaine Boutin-Sweet, Brad Butt, Chris Charlton, Ryan Cleary, Rodger Cuzner, Joe Daniel, Ed Komarnicki, François Lapointe, Kellie Leitch, Colin Mayes, Phil McColeman and Devinder Shory.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Sandra Gruescu, Analyst; André Léonard, Analyst. House of Commons: Mariane Beaudin, Procedural Clerk.

 

Appearing: Hon. Diane Finley, Minister of Human Resources and Skills Development.

 

Witnesses: Department of Human Resources and Skills Development: Karen Jackson, Senior Associate Deputy Minister, and Chief Operating Officer for Service Canada. Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation: Karen Kinsley, President. Department of Human Resources and Skills Development: Ian Shugart, Deputy Minister; Alfred Tsang, Chief Financial Officer.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 81(4), the Committee commenced consideration of the Main Estimates 2012-2013: Votes 1, 5, 10, 15, 20 and 25 under HUMAN RESOURCES AND SKILLS DEVELOPMENT referred to the Committee on Tuesday, February 28, 2012.
 

The Chair called Vote 1.

 

The Minister made a statement and, with Karen Kinsley and Karen Jackson, answered questions.

François Lapointe gave notice of the following motion:

That the Standing Committee on Human Resources, Skills and Social Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities commence a study on the regional and national impacts, for employers and Canadian workers, of the changes to the employment insurance system.

 

At 4:36 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
