The Standing Committee on Finance met in a televised session at 3:30 p.m. this day, in Room 253-D, Centre Block, the Chair, James Rajotte, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Mark Adler, Alain Giguère, Shelly Glover, Randy Hoback, Brian Jean, Hoang Mai, Cathy McLeod, James Rajotte and Dave Van Kesteren.

 

Acting Members present: Dean Allison for Brian Jean, Ron Cannan for Mark Adler, Guy Caron for Peter Julian, Hon. Geoff Regan for Hon. Scott Brison and Jinny Jogindera Sims for Robert Chisholm.

 

In attendance: House of Commons: Chloé O'Shaughnessy, Legislative Clerk. Library of Parliament: Mark Mahabir, Analyst; Brett Stuckey, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Alliance of Canadian Wine Consumers: Shirley-Ann George, President. British Columbia Wine Institute: Miles Prodan, Executive Director. Château des Charmes: Paul-André Bosc, President. Grape Growers of Ontario: Debbie Zimmerman, Chief Executive Officer. Wine Council of Ontario: Hillary Dawson, President. Winelaw.ca: Mark Hicken, Vintage Law Group.

 
Pursuant to the Order of Reference of Wednesday, December 7, 2011, the Committee resumed consideration of Bill C-311, An Act to amend the Importation of Intoxicating Liquors Act (interprovincial importation of wine for personal use).
 

The Committee commenced its clause-by-clause study of the Bill.

 

The Chair called Clause 1.

 

Shirley-Ann George, Miles Prodan, Paul-André Bosc, Debbie Zimmerman, Hillary Dawson and Mark Hicken made statements and answered questions.

 

Clause 1 carried.

 

The Title carried.

 

The Bill carried.

 

ORDERED, — That the Chair report the Bill to the House.

 

At 4:59 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 5:01 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

Randy Hoback gave notice of the following motion: That the Standing Committee on Finance invite witnesses to appear on the subject of aggressive use of tax havens and other international tax planning in order to ascertain emerging best practices in foreign jurisdictions; that the evidence and documentation received by the Committee during the 3rd Session of the 40th Parliament on the subject be taken into consideration; and that the meetings on this study be scheduled at the discretion of the Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure.

 

At 5:06 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 5:07 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

At 5:18 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
