The Standing Committee on the Status of Women met in a televised session at 11:00 a.m. this day, in Room C-110, 1 Wellington Street, the Chair, Marie-Claude Morin, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Stella Ambler, Joan Crockatt, Anne-Marie Day, Roxanne James, Marie-Claude Morin, Tilly O'Neill Gordon, Susan Truppe and Wai Young.

 

Acting Members present: Irene Mathyssen for Niki Ashton, Isabelle Morin for Sana Hassainia, Hon. Geoff Regan for Hon. Judy Sgro and David Wilks for Joyce Bateman.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Havi Echenberg, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Canadian Broadcasting Corporation: Hubert T. Lacroix, President and Chief Executive Officer; Monique Marcotte, Interim Executive Director, English Services Human Resources; Executive Director, Strategic Planning and Human Resources Corporate Groups, People and Culture.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Wednesday, May 16, 2012, the Committee resumed its study of sexual harassment in the federal workplace.
 

Hubert T. Lacroix made a statement and, with Monique Marcotte, answered questions.

 

Irene Mathyssen gave notice of the following motion:

That the Committee conduct a study of the recommendations of the panel on Violence Against Women in Canada, and that it report to the House on the progress made towards each specific recommendation, including an action plan to complete those recommendations not yet implemented; that the Committee set aside adequate time and resources to hear from witnesses who could assist in the study; and that each political party submit names to the clerk to ensure the thoroughness of the study.

 

At 11:59 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 12:05 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 

Susan Truppe moved, — That the Committee proceed to sit in camera.

 

The question was put on the motion and it was agreed to, by a show of hands: YEAS: 7; NAYS: 4.

 

At 12:06 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 12:08 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That, pursuant to Standing Orders 81(4) and 81(5), the Committee invite the Minister for Status of Women and Agency officials to appear as soon as possible to discuss the Supplementary Estimates (C) 2012-13 and the Main Estimates 2013-14.

 

It was agreed, — That the Committee meet on Monday, March 25, 2013 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. to accommodate the appearance, by videoconference, of Paula McDonald, from Brisbane, Australia, in relation to the study of sexual harassment in the federal workplace.

 

It was agreed, — That the Committee meeting of Thursday, March 28, 2013 be cancelled, and the appearances of witnesses scheduled for that day be postponed to the next available date.

 

It was agreed, — That, in accordance with the sub judice convention, invitations to appear on the study of sexual harassment in the federal workplace be limited to individuals not currently involved in a judicial process or grievance.

 

It was agreed, — That the Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure meet on Thursday, March 21, 2013, from 12:30 p.m. to 1:00 p.m., to discuss planning of future business of the Committee.

 

At 12:30 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
