The Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Development met at 8:48 a.m. this day, in Room 306, La Promenade Building, the Chair, Dean Allison, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Dean Allison, Paulina Ayala, Lois Brown, Bob Dechert, Peter Goldring, Nina Grewal, Hélène Laverdière, Marc-André Morin, Gary Ralph Schellenberger, Jinny Jogindera Sims and Dave Van Kesteren.

 

Acting Members present: Kelly Block for Dave Van Kesteren and Hon. Mark Eyking for Hon. Dominic LeBlanc.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Allison Goody, Analyst; James Lee, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development: Jon Allen, Assistant Deputy Minister, Americas; Marie Gervais-Vidricaire, Director General, Stabilization and Reconstruction Task Force; Denis Robert, Director, Haiti Task Force. Canadian International Development Agency: Lise Filiatrault, Regional Director General, Americas, Geographic Programs Branch; Isabelle Bérard, Director General, Haiti; Leslie Norton, Director General, International Humanitarian Assistance Directorate. CARE Canada: Kevin McCort, President and Chief Executive Officer. Canadian Red Cross: Conrad Sauvé, Secretary General and Chief Executive Officer; Pam Aung Thin, National Director, Public Affairs and Government Relations. UNICEF Canada: Stephanie Kleschnitzki, Reports and Contributions Manager, Haiti.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on October 4, 2011, the Committee proceeded to a briefing on the situation in Haiti.
 

Jon Allen and Lise Filiatrault made statements and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

 

At 9:46 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 9:52 a.m., the sitting resumed.

 

Kevin McCort, Conrad Sauvé and Stephanie Kleschnitzki made statements and, with Pam Aung Thin, answered questions.

 

At 10:46 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
