The Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Development met at 8:47 a.m. this day, in Room 306, La Promenade Building, the Chair, Dean Allison, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Dean Allison, Lois Brown, Bob Dechert, Paul Dewar, Nina Grewal, Hélène Laverdière, Ève Péclet, Romeo Saganash, Gary Ralph Schellenberger, Dave Van Kesteren and John Williamson.

 

Acting Members present: Hon. Irwin Cotler for Hon. Dominic LeBlanc.

 

Associate Members present: Hon. Mark Eyking.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Allison Goody, Analyst; James Lee, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade: Mark Bailey, Director General, Middle East Bureau. Canadian International Development Agency: Leslie Norton, Director General, International Humanitarian Assistance Directorate. Canadian Red Cross: Susan Johnson, Director General, International Operations and Movement Relations; Stéphane Michaud, Senior Manager, Emergency Response for International Operations.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee proceeded to a briefing on the Situation in Syria.
 

Mark Bailey made a statement and, with Leslie Norton, answered questions.

 

At 9:57 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 10:03 a.m., the sitting resumed.

 

Susan Johnson made a statement and, with Stéphane Michaud, answered questions.

 

At 10:45 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
