The Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Development met at 3:31 p.m. this day, in Room 306, La Promenade Building, the Chair, Dean Allison, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Dean Allison, Lois Brown, Bob Dechert, Nina Grewal, Sadia Groguhé, Jean-François Larose, Hélène Laverdière, Hon. Dominic LeBlanc, Gary Ralph Schellenberger, Jinny Jogindera Sims, Dave Van Kesteren and John Williamson.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Allison Goody, Analyst; James Lee, Analyst.

 

Appearing: Hon. John Baird, P.C., M.P., Minister of Foreign Affairs; Hon. Diane Ablonczy, P.C., M.P., Minister of State of Foreign Affairs (Americas and Consular Affairs).

 

Witnesses: Scotiabank: Wendy Hannam, Executive Vice-President. Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade: Nadir Patel, Assistant Deputy Minister and Chief Financial Officer; Morris Rosenberg, Deputy Minister.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Tuesday, November 1, 2011, the Committee resumed its study on the role of the private sector in achieving Canada's international development interests.
 

Wendy Hannam made a statement and answered questions.

 

At 3:55 p.m., by unanimous consent and pursuant to Standing Order 115(5), it was agreed that the Committee continue to sit until 4:05 p.m.

 

At 4:06 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:53 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 81(4), the Committee commenced consideration of the Main Estimates 2012-13: Votes 1, 5, 10, 15, 25, 30, L35, L40, 45 and 50 under FOREIGN AFFAIRS AND INTERNATIONAL TRADE referred to the Committee on Tuesday, February 28, 2012.
 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2)(c), the Committee commenced its study of the expenditure plans for the Department for the fiscal year 2011-12.
 

The Chair called Vote 1 under FOREIGN AFFAIRS AND INTERNATIONAL TRADE.

 

The Ministers made statements and, with Morris Rosenberg, answered questions.

 

At 5:51 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
