The Standing Committee on Environment and Sustainable Development met at 11:36 a.m. this day, in Room 228, La Promenade Building, the Chair, Mark Warawa, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Stella Ambler, Kirsty Duncan, Bruce Hyer, Megan Anissa Leslie, Laurin Liu, James Lunney, Michelle Rempel, Robert Sopuck, Lise St-Denis, Lawrence Toet, Mark Warawa and Stephen Woodworth.

 

Other Members present: François Choquette.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Penny Becklumb, Analyst; Tim Williams, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency: Elaine Feldman, President; Helen Cutts, Vice-President, Policy Development Sector; Yves Leboeuf, Vice-President, Operations; John McCauley, Director, Legislative and Regulatory Affairs Division.

 
Pursuant to the Order of Reference of Wednesday, October 19, 2011, the Committee commenced its statutory review of the Canadian Environmental Assessment Act.
 

Elaine Feldman made a statement and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

On motion of Michelle Rempel, it was agreed, — That in relation to the statutory review of the Canadian Environmental Assessment Act, the proposed budget in the amount of $39,750, be adopted.

 

It was agreed, — That in relation to the statutory review of the Canadian Environmental Assessment Act, the Committee invite the officials from the Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency to appear again before the Committee, on Thursday, October 27, 2011.

 

At 1:02 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
