The Standing Committee on Environment and Sustainable Development met in camera at 3:33 p.m. this day, in Room 268, La Promenade Building, the Chair, Mark Warawa, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Stella Ambler, François Choquette, Kirsty Duncan, Laurin Liu, James Lunney, François Pilon, Michelle Rempel, Robert Sopuck, Lawrence Toet, Mark Warawa and Stephen Woodworth.

 

Acting Members present: Denis Blanchette for Megan Anissa Leslie and Bev Shipley for Stella Ambler.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Penny Becklumb, Analyst; Tim Williams, Analyst.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That the Committee invite the Minister of the Environment to appear before the Committee, no later than on Thursday, March 15, 2012, to discuss the Supplementary Estimates (B) 2011-12, the Supplementary Estimates (C) 2011-12, and the Main Estimates 2012-13; that the Minister attend Committee for the first hour; and that the officials from the Department remain for the entire two-hour Committee meeting.

 

It was agreed, — That the Second Report from the Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure, which read as follows, be concurred in as amended:

Your Subcommittee met on Tuesday, February 28, 2012, to consider the business of the Committee and agreed to make the following recommendations:

1. That on Tuesday, March 6, 2012, or at the meeting following the adoption of the report on the Statutory Review of the Canadian Environmental Assessment Act, the Committee hear from witnesses from Environment Canada and Parks Canada in relation to its study to provide recommendations regarding the development of a National Conservation Plan.

2. That the Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure meet on Thursday, March 15, 2012, to discuss the scope, the schedule and the potential witnesses for the study regarding the development of a National Conservation Plan.

 

It was agreed, — That the meeting of Thursday, March 29, 2012, be cancelled.

 
Pursuant to the Order of Reference of Wednesday, October 19, 2011, the Committee resumed its statutory review of the Canadian Environmental Assessment Act.
 

The Committee resumed consideration of a draft report.

 

At 5:18 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
