The Standing Committee on Canadian Heritage met in a televised session at 11:07 a.m. this day, in Room C-110, 1 Wellington Street, the Vice-Chair, Pierre Nantel, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Scott Armstrong, Gordon Brown, Paul Calandra, Andrew Cash, Matthew Dubé, Parm Gill, Jim Hillyer, Pierre Nantel, Rathika Sitsabaiesan and Terence Young.

 

Acting Members present: Peter Braid for Gordon Brown, Ed Komarnicki for Hon. Rob Moore and Lise St-Denis for Scott Simms.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Michael Dewing, Analyst; Marion Ménard, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: British High Commission: H.E. Andrew John Pocock, British High Commissioner to Canada. Canadian Olympic Committee: Marcel Aubut, President; Christopher R. Overholt, Chief Executive Officer and Secretary General. As an individual: Charmaine Althia Crooks, Five time Canadian Olympian and Olympic Silver Medalist.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Thursday, March 29, 2012, the Committee commenced its study of Canada's preparations for the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games in London.
 

H.E. Andrew John Pocock, Marcel Aubut and Charmaine Althia Crooks made statements and, with Christopher R. Overholt, answered questions.

 

At 12:51 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 12:54 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.

It was agreed, — That on Thursday, June 7 and Tuesday June 12, 2012 the Committee meetings be devoted to the consideration of the draft report in relation to its study on Canada's 150th anniversary in 2017.

 

It was agreed, — That on Thursday, June 14 and Tuesday June 19, 2012 the Committee meetings be devoted to the consideration of the draft report in relation to its review of national protocol procedures.

 

At 12:59 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
