The Standing Committee on Agriculture and Agri-Food met at 11:03 a.m. this day, in Room 8-53, 131 Queen Street, the Chair, Merv Tweed, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Malcolm Allen, Ruth Ellen Brosseau, Randy Hoback, Pierre Lemieux, LaVar Payne, Francine Raynault, Blake Richards, Brian Storseth, Merv Tweed, Frank Valeriote and Bob Zimmer.

 

Acting Members present: Rod Bruinooge for Pierre Lemieux, Jonathan Genest-Jourdain for Alex Atamanenko and Erin O'Toole for Brian Storseth.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Frédéric Forge, Analyst; Khamla Heminthavong, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Canadian Seed Trade Association: Patty Townsend, Chief Executive Officer. Les amiEs de la Terre de l'Estrie: André Nault, President; Laurier Busque, Administrator. Canada Organic Trade Association: Matthew Holmes, Executive Director. As an individual: Rene Van Acker, Professor, Department of Plant Agriculture, University of Guelph.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Tuesday, October 2, 2012, the Committee resumed its study of agricultural and agri-food products supply chain (grains and oilseeds).
 

Patty Townsend made a statement and answered questions.

 

André Nault with Laurier Busque, by videoconference from Sherbrooke, Québec, made a statement and, answered questions.

 

At 11:59 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 12:05 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 

Matthew Holmes made a statement and answered questions.

 

Rene Van Akder, by videoconference from Guelph, Ontario, made a statement and answered questions.

 

At 12:51 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 12:52 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That in accordance to the Order of Reference of Friday, February 15, 2013, the Committee report the following to the House:

The Standing Committee on Agriculture and Agri-Food agrees with the adoption of the Canadian Food Inspection Agency’s User Fee Proposal for Importer Licensing for Non-federally Registered Sector Products to Parliament that was tabled in the House of Commons on February 15, 2013.

 

At 1:04 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
