The Standing Committee on Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development met at 8:52 a.m. this day, in Room C-160, 1 Wellington Street, the Chair, Chris Warkentin, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Stella Ambler, Hon. Carolyn Bennett, Dennis Bevington, Ray Boughen, Rob Clarke, Jean Crowder, Jonathan Genest-Jourdain, Carol Hughes, Brent Rathgeber, Greg Rickford, Kyle Seeback and Chris Warkentin.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Norah Kielland, Analyst; Tonina Simeone, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Native Women's Association of Canada: Michèle Audette, President; Teresa Edwards, Director, International Affairs and Human Rights. Congress of Aboriginal Peoples: Jim Devoe, Chief Executive Officer; Betty Ann Lavallée, National Chief.

 
Pursuant to the Order of Reference of Wednesday, December 5, 2012, the Committee resumed consideration of Bill C-428, An Act to amend the Indian Act (publication of by-laws) and to provide for its replacement.
 

Michèle Audette and Teresa Edwards made statements and answered questions.

 

At 9:46 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 9:52 a.m., the sitting resumed.

 

Betty Ann Lavallée made a statement and, with Jim Devoe, answered questions.

 

At 10:25 a.m., Jean Crowder took the Chair.

 

At 10:30 a.m., Chris Warkentin took the Chair.

 

At 10:42 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 10:44 a.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

 

It was agreed, — That the Committee delegates its power to select witnesses for the purpose of studying Bill C-428 to the Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure.

 

At 10:46 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
