The Standing Committee on Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development met at 4:19 p.m. this day, in Room 228, La Promenade Building, the Chair, Chris Warkentin, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Hon. Carolyn Bennett, Dennis Bevington, Ray Boughen, Rob Clarke, Jean Crowder, Jonathan Genest-Jourdain, Carol Hughes, Blake Richards, Greg Rickford, Kyle Seeback, Chris Warkentin and David Wilks.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Tonina Simeone, Analyst; Norah Kielland, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Government of Nunavut: David Akeeagok, Deputy Minister of the Environment, Chief Negociator, Devolution, Government of Nunavut; Christopher Douglas, Special Advisor to Premier Eva Aariak.

 
Pursuant to the Order of Reference of Monday, November 26, 2012, the Committee resumed consideration of Bill C-47, An Act to enact the Nunavut Planning and Project Assessment Act and the Northwest Territories Surface Rights Board Act and to make related and consequential amendments to other Acts.
 

David Ageeakok made statements and, with Christopher Douglas answered questions.

 

At 5:06 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 5:09 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That in relation to the study of Bill C-47, An Act to enact the Nunavut Planning and Project Assessment Act and the Northwest Territories Surface Rights Board Act and to make related and consequential amendments to other Acts, the proposed budget in the amount of $ 41,627.10, for the Committee’s travel to Yellowknife, NT, in January 2013, be adopted.

 

It was agreed, — That a proposed budget in the amount of $ 5,000, for the study of Bill C-47, An Act to enact the Nunavut Planning and Project Assessment Act and the Northwest Territories Surface Rights Board Act and to make related and consequential amendments to other Acts, be adopted.

 

At 5:19 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
