The Standing Committee on Public Safety and National Security met in a televised session at 3:30 p.m. this day, in Room 253-D, Centre Block, the Chair, Garry Breitkreuz, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Garry Breitkreuz, Luc Desnoyers, Shelly Glover, Mark Holland, Andrew Kania, Dave MacKenzie, Phil McColeman, Maria Mourani, Rick Norlock, Brent Rathgeber and Borys Wrzesnewskyj.

 

Acting Members present: Joe Comartin for Don Davies.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Lyne Casavant, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Government of Yukon: Hon. John Edzerza, Member of the Legislative Assembly, McIntyre-Takhini, and Minister of Environment. Canadian Police Association: Charles Momy, President; Nadine Teeft, Detective Constable, Organized Crime Enforcement, Gun and Gang Task Force, Toronto Police Services. Abbotsford Police Department: Bob Rich, Chief Constable. Dawson College Committee for Gun Control: Brian Rahilly, Spokesperson. Canadian Association of Emergency Physicians: Alan Drummond; Carolyn Snider. Fédération des femmes du Québec: Alexa Conradi, President; Manon Monastesse, Director, Fédération de ressources d'hébergement pour femmes violentées et en difficulté du Québec.

 
Pursuant to the Order of Reference of Wednesday, March 3, 2010, the Committee resumed consideration of Bill C-391, An Act to amend the Criminal Code and the Firearms Act (repeal of long-gun registry).
 

The witnesses made statements and answered questions.

 

At 5:30 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
