Thursday, November 25, 2010

The Standing Committee on Industry, Science and Technology met at 11:00 a.m. this day, in Room 8-53, 131 Queen St., the Chair, David Sweet, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Robert Bouchard, Peter Braid, Gordon Brown, Serge Cardin, Marc Garneau, Mike Lake, Hon. Dan McTeague, Anthony Rota, David Sweet, Dave Van Kesteren and Mike Wallace.

Acting Members present: John Rafferty for Brian Masse.

Other Members present: Luc Desnoyers.

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Mark Mahabir, Analyst ; Dillan Theckedath, Analyst.

Witnesses: Department of Industry: Roger Charland, Senior Director, Corporate and Insolvency Law Policy and Internal Trade; Matt Dooley, Senior Project Leader, Corporate and Insolvency Law Policy and Internal Trade.

Pursuant to the Order of Reference of Wednesday, May 26, 2010, the Committee resumed consideration of Bill C-501, An Act to amend the Bankruptcy and Insolvency Act and other Acts (pension protection).

The witnesses made statements and answered questions.

At 11:06 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 11:07 a.m., the sitting resumed.

The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.

Marc Garneau moved, — That the Committee re-invite witnesses to appear, if they so choose, on Tuesday, November 30 and Thursday, December 2, 2010, to comment on the proposed amendments to Bill C-501.

On motion of Mike Lake, it was agreed, — That the motion be amended by adding after the words “Bill C-501” the following: “during meetings scheduled for Tuesday, November 30 and Thursday, December 2 and that the committee proceed to clause by clause consideration of the Bill on Tuesday, December 7, 2010”.

The motion, as amended, read as follows:

That the Committee re-invite witnesses to appear, if they so choose, on Tuesday, November 30 and Thursday, December 2, 2010, to comment on the proposed amendments to Bill C-501 during meetings scheduled for Tuesday, November 30th and Thursday, December 2nd and that the committee proceed to clause by clause consideration of the Bill on Tuesday December 7, 2010.

At 12:10 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
