The Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Development met in a televised session at 11:10 a.m. this day, in Room 237-C, Centre Block, the Chair, Dean Allison, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Hon. Jim Abbott, Dean Allison, Johanne Deschamps, Paul Dewar, Francine Lalonde, James Lunney, Deepak Obhrai, Bernard Patry, Hon. Bob Rae and Dave Van Kesteren.

 

Acting Members present: Ron Cannan for Peter Goldring and Francis Valeriote for Glen Douglas Pearson.

 

In attendance: House of Commons: Andrew Lauzon, Procedural Clerk. Library of Parliament: Allison Goody, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Rights & Democracy: Gérard Latulippe, President.

 

Participants present: As an individual: Geneviève Latulippe.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Tuesday, March 16, 2010, the Committee resumed its study of the situation at Rights & Democracy (International Centre for Human Rights and Democratic Development).
 

Gérard Latulippe made a statement and answered questions.

 

At 12:32 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 12:35 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

Francine Lalonde moved, — That the Committee prepare a report with recommendations concerning the situation at the International Centre for Human Rights and Democratic Development (Rights & Democracy), after hearing from all pertinent witnesses, and that this report be presented in the House of Commons.

 

After debate, the question was put on the motion and it was agreed to.

 

It was agreed, — That the Committee meet on Tuesday, April 20, 2010, in order to provide the analysts with drafting instructions for the preparation of the draft report on the situation at Rights & Democracy.

 

It was agreed, — That the Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure meet on Thursday, April 22, 2010, from 11:00 a.m to 12:00 p.m., followed by a meeting of the Committee from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m.

 

At 12:47 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
