The Standing Committee on Environment and Sustainable Development met by videoconference at 3:37 p.m. this day, in Room 853, 131 Queen St., the Chair, James Bezan, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Scott Armstrong, James Bezan, Bernard Bigras, Blaine Calkins, Linda Duncan, David J. McGuinty, Christian Ouellet, Francis Scarpaleggia, Justin Trudeau, Mark Warawa, Jeff Watson and Stephen Woodworth.

 

Acting Members present: Roger Gaudet for Bernard Bigras.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Tim Williams, Analyst; Penny Becklumb, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society: Éric Hébert-Daly, National Executive Director. World Wildlife Fund (Canada): Peter J. Ewins, Senior Officer, Species Conservation. David Suzuki Foundation: Rachel Plotkin, Biodiversity Policy Analyst. Ecojustice Canada: Keith Ferguson, Staff Lawyer; Susan Pinkus, Staff Scientist.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), section 129 of the Species at Risk Act and the motion adopted by the Committee on Tuesday, March 16, 2010, the Committee resumed the statutory review of the Act.
 

Éric Hébert-Daly and Peter J. Ewins made statements and answered questions.

 

Rachel Plotkin, and Keith Ferguson by videoconference from Vancouver, British Columbia, made statements and, with Susan Pinkus, by videoconference from Vancouver, British Columbia, answered questions.

 

At 5:29 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
