The Standing Committee on Agriculture and Agri-Food met at 11:03 a.m. this day, in Room 371, West Block, the Chair, Larry Miller, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Alex Atamanenko, André Bellavance, France Bonsant, Hon. Wayne Easter, Hon. Mark Eyking, Randy Hoback, Pierre Lemieux, Larry Miller, Blake Richards, Bev Shipley, Brian Storseth and Francis Valeriote.

 

Associate Members present: Malcolm Allen.

 

In attendance: House of Commons: Jean-François Lafleur, Committee Clerk. Library of Parliament: Mathieu Frigon, Analyst; Frédéric Forge, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Department of Agriculture and Agri-Food: Jody Aylard, Director General, Finance and Renewal Programs Directorate; Greg Meredith, Assistant Deputy Minister, Farm Financial Programs Branch; Éric Leblanc, Legal Counsel, Legal Services. Dairy Farmers of Canada: Richard Doyle, Executive Director. Ontario Apple Growers: Brian Gilroy, Chair. Canadian Pork Council: Jurgen Preugschas, Chair; Stephen Moffett, Director. Turkey Farmers of Canada: Mark Davies, Chair; Phil Boyd, Executive Director.

 
Pursuant to the Order of Reference of Monday, May 11, 2009, the Committee commenced consideration of Bill C-29, An Act to increase the availability of agricultural loans and to repeal the Farm Improvement Loans Act.
 

The witnesses answered questions.

 

The Committee commenced its clause-by-clause study of the Bill.

 

The Chair called Clause 1.

 

By unanimous consent, Clauses 1 to 14 inclusive carried.

 

The Title carried.

 

The Bill carried.

 

ORDERED, — That the Chair report the Bill to the House.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on February 24, 2009, the Committee resumed its study of Competitiveness of Canadian Agriculture.
 

The witnesses made statements and answered questions.

 

At 1:00 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
