The Standing Committee on Human Resources, Social Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities met at 9:08 a.m. this day, in Room 214, Wellington Building, the Chair, Dean Allison, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Dean Allison, France Bonsant, Gord Brown, Jacques Gourde, Mike Lake, Yves Lessard, Tony Martin, Hon. Judy Sgro and Lynne Yelich.

 

Acting Members present: Sukh Dhaliwal for Rodger Cuzner, Hon. Gurbax Malhi for Ruby Dhalla and Denise Savoie for Tony Martin.

 

Other Members present: Sukh Dhaliwal and Hon. Gurbax Malhi.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Chantal Collin, Analyst; Kevin Kerr, Analyst; Jennifer Paul, Analyst.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Tuesday, April 1st, 2008, the Committee resumed its study of the Canada Employment Insurance Financing Board.
 

The witnesses made statements and answered questions.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That an invitation be extended to the Minister of Human Resources and Social Development to appear before the Committee on May 27th concerning the study on the Canada Employment Insurance Financing Board.

 

It was agreed, — That the following report from the Sub-committee on Agenda and Procedure be adopted:

That the following working calendar be recommended to the Committee:

May 13: Consideration of Bill C-362, An Act to amend the Old Age Security Act (residency requirement) Colleen Beaumier (Brampton-Ouest--Mississauga).

  • First hour: Colleen Beaumier;
  • Second hour: Witnesses.

May 15:

  • First hour: Canadian Federation of Independent Business and Canadian Council of Chief Executives will be invited to appear before the Committee on the Canada Employment Insurance Financing Board;
  • Second Hour: Clause by clause of Bill C-362.

That the Analysts and the Clerk be authorized to organize meetings and/or teleconferences for Phase II of the Committee’s study of the Federal contribution to reducing poverty in Canada.

That a Subcommittee meeting be held in June.

That 2 or 3 meetings be devoted to examining a short draft report on the Canada Employment Insurance Financing Board, the first of which is to be held on May 27, 2008.

That one meeting be devoted to a Committee discussion on the measurement of poverty, following the completion of Phase II of the Committee's study on the Federal contribution to reducing poverty in Canada.

 

At 11:08 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
