The Standing Committee on Human Resources, Social Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities met in camera at 9:09 a.m. this day, in Room 237-C, Centre Block, the Chair, Dean Allison, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Dean Allison, Gord Brown, Rodger Cuzner, Ruby Dhalla, Jacques Gourde, Mike Lake, Yves Lessard, Tony Martin, Michael Savage, Hon. Judy Sgro and Lynne Yelich.

 

Acting Members present: Marcel Lussier for France Bonsant.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Chantal Collin, Analyst; Kevin Kerr, Analyst.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Monday, November 26, 2007, the Committee commenced its study of federal contribution to reducing poverty in Canada.
 

The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.

 

It was agreed, — That pursuant to Standing Order 97.1(1), the Committee request, from the House, an extension of 30 sitting days to consider Bill C-362, An Act to amend the Old Age Security Act (residency requirement) since given the workload of the past few weeks, the Committee has been unable to give the Bill the consideration it requires.

 

It was agreed, — That the following working calendar be adopted by the Committee:

April 8: Poverty Study (In camera meeting (expectations));

April 10: Poverty Study (Overview);

April 15: Poverty Study (Overview);

Thursday, April 17: Poverty Study (Overview)

April 29: Estimates 2008-09 (Minister of Human Resources and Social Development);

May 1, 6, and 8: Canada Employment Insurance Financing Board;

Tuesday, May 13: Bill C-362, An Act to amend the Old Age Security Act (residency requirement): (Presentation by Colleen Beaumier) (Department officials (briefing))

Thursday, May 15: Bill C-362 (Witnesses);

Tuesday, May 27: Bill C-362 (Study and clause-by-clause); and

May 29 and June 3, 5, 10, 12, 17, and 19: Poverty Study.

 

At 10:40 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
