The Standing Committee on Canadian Heritage met at 3:32 p.m. this day, in Room 209, West Block, the Chair, Gary Schellenberger, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Hon. Jim Abbott, Hon. Michael D. Chong, Ed Fast, Hon. Hedy Fry, Luc Malo, Maria Mourani, Francis Scarpaleggia, Gary Schellenberger and Bill Siksay.

 

Acting Members present: Charlie Angus for Bill Siksay, Hon. Mauril Bélanger for Hon. Denis Coderre, Massimo Pacetti for Hon. Andy Scott and Pierre Poilievre for Dean Del Mastro.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Michael Dewing, Analyst; Lara Trehearne, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission: Namir Anani, Executive Director, Policy Development and Research Sector; Scott Hutton, Executive Director, Broadcasting; Konrad W. von Finckenstein, Chair.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on March 6, 2008, the Committee commenced its study on the Internet content regulations.
 

Konrad von Finckenstein made a statement and, with Scott Hutton, answered questions.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on May 6, 2008, the Committee commenced its study on the request of the CRTC to obtain the power to impose administrative monetary penalties.

The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

At 5:10 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
