The Standing Committee on Agriculture and Agri-Food met at 9:07 a.m. this day, in Room 253-D, Centre Block, the Chair, James Bezan, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Alex Atamanenko, André Bellavance, James Bezan, Ken Boshcoff, Hon. Wayne Easter, Guy Lauzon, Hon. Carol Skelton, Lloyd St. Amand, Paul Steckle, Brian Storseth and Ève-Mary Thaï Thi Lac.

 

Acting Members present: Brian Fitzpatrick for Larry Miller.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Jean-Denis Fréchette, Principal; Mathieu Frigon, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: CropLife Canada: Jill Maase, Vice-President, Plant Biotechnology, Government and Public Affairs; Peter MacLeod, Vice-President, Crop Protection Chemistry. Saskatchewan Association of Rural Municipalities: Ray Orb, Member of the Board. National Farmers Union: Darrin Qualman, Director of Research. Animal Nutrition Association of Canada: Paul Wideman, Executive Director.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed its study on High Input Costs Facing Canadian Farmers.
 

Darrin Qualman, Ray Orb, Paul Wideman and Jill Maase made statements and, with Peter MacLeod, answered questions.

 

On motion of Wayne Easter, it was agreed, — That the Committee ask its analyst to submit potential names and term of reference in order to provide the Committee with a study on the most recent prices of inputs in Canada versus the United States and that be reported back to the Committee.

 

At 10:58 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
