The Standing Committee on Industry, Science and Technology met at 3:32 p.m. this day, in Room 308, West Block, the Chair, James Rajotte, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: André Arthur, Colin Carrie, Paul Crête, Susan Kadis, Hon. Jean C. Lapierre, Brian Masse, Hon. Dan McTeague, James Rajotte, Bev Shipley, Hon. Belinda Stronach, Dave Van Kesteren and Robert Vincent.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Lalita Acharya, Analyst; Dan Shaw, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Department of Finance: Nancy Horsman, Director, Business Income Tax Divison, Tax Policy Branch; Kevin Shoom, Acting Chief, Economic Development, Business Income Tax Division, Tax Policy Branch. Food and Consumer Products of Canada: Gemma Zecchini, Senior Vice-President, Public Policy; Mr. Blake Johnston, Vice-President of Government Affairs.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed its study of Challenges Facing the Canadian Manufacturing Sector.
 

The witnesses made statements and answered questions.

 

At 4:34 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

That the format and witness list of the Committee's meeting scheduled for Thursday, October 19, 2006 on the policy direction to the CRTC remain unchanged; and, that all other organisations which have requested to appear be invited to submit a written brief only at this time.

 

That a representative of Electro-Federation Canada be invited to appear before the Committee in relation to its study of the challenges facing the Canadian Manufacturing Sector.

 

That, in relation to its study of the challenges facing the Canadian Manufacturing Sector, the Committee request permission to travel to Halifax, Montreal, Granby, Oshawa, Toronto, Windsor and Edmonton during the week of November 20, 2006 to hold public hearings and perform site visits.

 

That the Chair be authorized, on behalf of the Committee, to prepare a travel budget and present it the Liaison Committee’s Subcommittee on Committee Budgets.

 

At 6:05 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
