The Standing Committee on Environment and Sustainable Development met at 9:02 a.m. this day, in Room 308, West Block, the Chair, Bob Mills, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Bernard Bigras, Nathan Cullen, Hon. John Godfrey, Luc Harvey, Marcel Lussier, Bob Mills, Pablo Rodriguez, Mario Silva, Maurice Vellacott, Mark Warawa and Jeff Watson.

 

Acting Members present: Raymond Bonin for Hon. Mark Eyking and Francis Scarpaleggia for Hon. Mark Eyking.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Tim Williams, Analyst. House of Commons: Justin Vaive, Committee Clerk.

 
Pursuant to the Order of Reference of Wednesday, October 4, 2006, the Committee resumed consideration of Bill C-288, An Act to ensure Canada meets its global climate change obligations under the Kyoto Protocol - Future Business - Work Plan.
 

Mark Warawa moved, — That the Standing Committee on the Environment and Sustainable Development schedule one additional Committee meeting each week until the Christmas Parliamentary break to continue the review of the Canadian Environmental Protection Act (CEPA), given that the Committee is mandated to review CEPA every 5 years and given that CEPA is the cornerstone legislation in Canada for the protection of the environment.

 

After debate, the question was put on the motion and the result of the vote was announced: YEAS: Nathan Cullen, Luc Harvey, Maurice Vellacott, Mark Warawa, Jeff Watson — 5; NAYS: Bernard Bigras, John Godfrey, Marcel Lussier, Pablo Rodriguez, Mario Silva — 5.

Whereupon, the Chair voted in the affirmative.

Accordingly, the motion was agreed to.

 

At 10:32 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
