The Standing Committee on Citizenship and Immigration met at 9:00 a.m. this day, in Room 269, West Block, the Chair, Norman Doyle, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Johanne Deschamps, Barry Devolin, Norman Doyle, Meili Faille, Raymonde Folco, Nina Grewal, Rahim Jaffer, Ed Komarnicki, Bill Siksay, Hon. Andrew Telegdi and Blair Wilson.

 

Acting Members present: Diane Bourgeois for Johanne Deschamps and Sukh Dhaliwal for Hon. Jim Karygiannis.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Jennifer Bird, Analyst; Andrew Kitching, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Canadian Council for Refugees: Janet Dench, Executive Director; Francisco Rico-Martinez, Co-Chair, Working Group on Inland Protection; Debra Simpson, Member.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Wednesday, June 21, 2006, the Committee commenced its study of Refugee Issues.
 

Janet Dench, Debra Simpson and Francisco Rico-Martinez made statements and answered questions.

 

At 10:36 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 10:40 a.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That the evidence received by the Standing Committee on Citizenship and Immigration in relation to its studies on Citizenship, Recognition of the International experience and Credentials of Immigrants, and Family Reunification Issues during the 1st Session of the 38th Parliament, be deemed adduced by the Committee in the current session.

 

It was agreed, — That the Committee invite the Chair of the Immigration and Refugee Board to appear on Thursday, October 5, 2006 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m..

 

At 10:58 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
