The Standing Committee on International Trade met at 11:02 a.m. this day, in Room 701, La Promenade Building, the Chair, Leon Benoit, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Dean Allison, Guy André, Hon. Navdeep Bains, Leon Benoit, Ron Cannan, Serge Cardin, Peter Julian, Pierre Lemieux, John Maloney, Ted Menzies and Lui Temelkovski.

 

Acting Members present: Mark Holland for Hon. Navdeep Bains and Derek Lee for Hon. Dominic LeBlanc.

 

Other Members present: Dennis Bevington.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Peter Berg, Analyst; Michael Holden, Analyst; Elizabeth Kuruvila, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Department of Industry: Alain Beaudoin, Executive Director, Innovation Partnerships Branch. Common Frontiers: Corina Crawley. Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade: William Crosbie, Director General, North America Bureau; Peter Fawcett, Deputy Director, United States Relations Division. Common Frontiers: John Foster. Parkland Institute: Gordon Laxer, Director.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed its study of Canada-U.S. Trade and Investment Issues and the Security and Prosperity Partnership of North America (SPP).
 

The witnesses made statements and answered questions.

 

At 12:03 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 12:06 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 

Gordon Laxer made an opening statement.

The Chair ruled that the statement was not relevant to the Order of the Day.

Whereby Peter Julian appealed the ruling of the Chair.

The question; “Shall the decision of the Chair be sustained?” was put and the decision was overruled.

 

At 12:18 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
