Mr. Peter Stoffer (Sackville—Eastern Shore, NDP): I'd like to nominate Mr. Anthony Rota for chair, please.

+-

The Clerk of the Committee: Mr. Stoffer has moved that Mr. Rota take the chair. Are there any other nominations?

The subcommittee has heard the terms of the motion, that Mr. Rota take the chair. Is it the pleasure of the subcommittee to adopt the motion?

    (Motion agreed to)

+-

The Clerk: The subcommittee in the past has had a vice-chair. I'm ready to receive nominations to that effect.

    Mr. O'Connor.

+-

Mr. Gordon O'Connor (Carleton—Mississippi Mills, CPC): I'd like to nominate Betty Hinton.

+-

The Clerk: Are there any other nominations?

Mr. O'Connor has moved that Mrs. Hinton be the vice-chair. The subcommittee has heard the terms of the motion. Is it the pleasure of the subcommittee to adopt the motion?

    (Motion agreed to)

+-

The Clerk: I invite Mr. Rota to take the chair.

+-

The Chair (Mr. Anthony Rota (Nipissing—Timiskaming, Lib.)): Thank you for that overwhelming vote of support. I appreciate the mandate to come back again for another term as your chair.

+-

Mr. Peter Stoffer: At least for a couple of weeks.

+-

The Chair: At least for a couple of weeks, yes.

Do we want to get into business, or do we just want to adjourn and then move up to vote? I guess that's the first decision we're going to have to make.

+-

Mr. Gordon O'Connor: We've got to kill those gophers.

-

The Chair: Okay. We've got to kill those gophers.

All those in favour of killing gophers, as moved by Mr. O'Connor?

What we'll do is we'll move on. We'll adjourn, go up and vote, and I'll see you in two weeks after next week's break. Don't forget, next week is Veterans Week. I'm sure all of you will be attending numerous events and you will do the committee proud.

    Thank you.
