[Translation]

    Thank you, everyone.

[English]

Thank you very much for your support, and congratulations to Werner and Paul for continuing in their roles.

I'd like to welcome Marc Boulianne from the Bloc as a new member of the committee. I would also like to welcome Marlene Jennings back to the committee. She has many years of experience, from a few years ago.

Before we do anything else, apart from thanking you and welcoming new members, we could, at your discretion, spend a little time doing future business. It would need everybody's agreement to do that; we couldn't give proper notice of this portion of the meeting, because there was no committee as such.

    Is there any disagreement?

Okay. I'd just like to outline and to indicate for the record that this committee has done a lot of work since it was first created a little over a year ago, after the last election. We have had numerous meetings on estimates and supplementary estimates. We did the certificate of nominations for three senior appointments, at BDC, the Standards Council of Canada, and the National Research Council. We had a number of briefings on our industrial strategy. A number of those, when it comes to foreign investment and energy and other areas, will actually be very helpful as we go forward on some of the bills. We look forward to winding up the foreign investment section on that. We had briefings on the Kyoto Protocol. We had TPC. We did some work on gasoline prices; we have to wind that up somehow.

We completed Bill S-18 as to Stats Canada; Bill C-9, the Economic Development Agency for Quebec; Bill C-37, the do not call list; and Bill C-29, which amended the Patent Act.

On our plate, as we speak, we have Bill C-19, which hopefully we can wrap up in a couple of sessions. That's the Competition Act. We have Bill C-21, which is the Canada Not-for- profit Corporations Act, a major overhaul of non-profit corporation legislation. We haven't touched that since the spring. I think we would have had it done by June, except we were asked to deal with Bill C-37, which we did.

We have officially received Bill C-55, amending the bankruptcy and insolvency legislation, which includes measures for wage protection for workers. In tandem with that, we have separately Bill C-281, which is Pat Martin's private member's bill. If members are in agreement, as we plan out those times there may be common witnesses for Bill C-55 and Bill C-281, so I think we should actually do those in tandem, if that's in agreement.

That's an outline of what we did. If it's all agreed, we'll go in camera and open the discussion as to our future business.

Okay. We'll get ourselves turned from public meeting to in camera.

    [Proceedings continue in camera]
