The Standing Committee on Human Resources, Skills Development, Social Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities met by videoconference at 11:11 a.m. this day, in Room 701 La Promenade Building, the Chair, Raymonde Folco, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Peter Adams, Eleni Bakopanos, Jean-Claude D'Amours, Barry Devolin, Raymonde Folco, Paul Forseth, Christiane Gagnon, Ed Komarnicki, Yves Lessard, Tony Martin, Mario Silva and Peter Van Loan.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Chantal Collin, Analyst; Kevin Kerr, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Study Committee on Seasonal Work: Normand Carrier, President. Canadian Labour Congress: Kevin Hayes, Senior Economist; Hassan Yussuff, Secretary Treasurer. Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada: Jennifer Stoddart, Privacy Commissioner; Hedy Kirkby, Legal Counsel. Canadian Council on Social Development: Marcel Lauzière, President. Northern College of Applied Arts and Technology, Community Employment Services: Lisette Ouellette, Employment Consultant. Canadian Construction Association: Dennis Ryan, Director, Industry, Human Resources.

 
Pursuant to the Order of Reference of November 23, 2004, the Committee resumed consideration of Bill C-23, An Act to establish the Department of Human Resources and Skills Development and to amend and repeal certain related Acts.
 
Pursuant to the Order of Reference of December 7, 2004, the Committee commenced consideration of Bill C-22, An Act to establish the Department of Social Development and to amend and repeal certain related Acts.
 

Jennifer Stoddart made a statement and answered questions.

 

At 12:02 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 12:05 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 

Hassan Yussuff, Lisette Ouellette, Dennis Ryan, Marcel Lauzière and Normand Carrier made statements and with the other witness, answered questions.

 

At 1:07 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
