The Standing Committee on Fisheries and Oceans met in a televised session at 9:04 a.m. this day, in Room 253-D Centre Block, the Vice-Chair, Gerald Keddy, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Raynald Blais, John Cummins, Rodger Cuzner, Loyola Hearn, Gerald Keddy, Bill Matthews, Jean-Yves Roy, Scott Simms, Peter Stoffer and Greg Thompson.

 

Associate Members present: Randy Kamp.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: François Côté, Analyst; Alan Nixon, Principal.

 

Witnesses: Office of the Commissioner of the Environment and Sustainable Development: Johanne Gélinas, Commissioner; Neil Maxwell, Principal. Office of the Auditor General of Canada: Gerry Chu, Director; Ronald Thompson, Assistant Auditor General. Department of Fisheries and Oceans: David Bevan, Assistant Deputy Minister, Fisheries and Aquaculture Management; Paul Macgillivray, Acting Regional Director, Fisheries Management, Pacific Region; John Pringle, Manager, Marine Environment and Habitat Sciences Division.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee proceeded to a briefing session on the Report of the Commissioner of the Environment and Sustainable Development to the House of Commons for the year 2004.
 

Johanne Gélinas made a statement and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

 

At 10:21, the sitting was suspended.

At 10:24, the sitting resumed in non-televised session.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee proceeded to a briefing session on the 2004 Fraser River sockeye salmon harvest.
 

David Bevan made a statement and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

 

At 10:58 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
