The Standing Committee on Fisheries and Oceans met at 3:33 p.m. this day, in Room 536 Wellington Building, for the purpose of electing a Chair, pursuant to Standing Order 106(1).

 

Members of the Committee present: Andy Burton, John Cummins, R. John Efford, Reed Elley, Georges Farrah, Dominic LeBlanc, Bill Matthews, Joe Peschisolido, Carmen Provenzano, Jean-Yves Roy, Peter Stoffer, Tom Wappel and Bob Wood.

 

Acting Members present: Claude Duplain for Rodger Cuzner.

 

In attendance: House of Commons: William Farrell, Procedural Clerk. Library of Parliament: Alan Nixon, Principal.

 
The Clerk of the Committee presided over the election of a Chair.
 

On motion of Peter Stoffer, it was agreed, — That Tom Wappel be elected Chair of the Committee.

 

The Clerk of the Committee presided over the election of the Vice-Chairs.

 

On motion of R. John Efford, it was agreed, — That Bill Matthews be elected as Government Vice-Chair of the Committee.

 

Andy Burton moved, — That John Cummins be elected as Opposition Vice-Chair of the Committee.

 

Bill Matthews moved, — That Peter Stoffer be elected as Opposition Vice-Chair of the Committee.

 

Pursuant to Standing Order 106(3), the election was conducted by secret ballot.

The ballots having been counted, John Cummins was declared duly elected as Opposition Vice-Chair of the Committee.

 

Tom Wappel took the Chair.

 

At 3:45 p.m., the Committee proceeded to sit in camera.

 
By unanimous consent, pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on January 30, 2003, the Committee resumed its study on Atlantic fisheries issues.
 

The Committee proceeded to the consideration of a draft report.

 

At 5:02 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
