MINUTES OF PROCEEDINGS

Meeting No. 62

Tuesday, June 18, 2002

The Standing Committee on Public Accounts met in camera at 3:38 p.m. this day, in Room 209, West Block, the Vice-Chair, Beth Phinney, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Robert Bertrand, John Bryden, Odina Desrochers, Rahim Jaffer, Sophia Leung, Philip Mayfield, Beth Phinney and Alex Shepherd.

Acting Members present: Mark Assad for John Finlay; John Harvard for Mac Harb; Joe McGuire for Shawn Murphy; Val Meredith for Paul Forseth; Ghislain Lebel for Gilles-A. Perron; Gerald Keddy for Greg Thompson.

Associate Members present: Gerald Keddy and Val Meredith.

In attendance: From the Parliamentary Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Brian O'Neal and Jean Dupuis, Research Officers.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(3)(e), the Committee resumed consideration of a draft report on Chapter 13 - Other Audit Observations (Heating fuel rebate) of the December 2001 Report of the Auditor General of Canada. (See Minutes of Proceedings of Tuesday, May 28, 2002, meeting No. 56)

It was agreed, - That the Committee adopt the Report as the TWENTY-FIFTH REPORT of the Committee.

It was agreed, - That pursuant to Standing Order 109, the Committee request that the Government provide a comprehensive response to this Report.

It was agreed, - That the Chair be authorized to make such grammatical and editorial changes to the Report as may be necessary without changing the substance of the Report.

It was agreed, - That the Chair Table the TWENTY-FIFTH REPORT to the House.

It was agreed, - That a Press Release be issued.

It was agreed, - That pursuant to Standing Order 109, the Committee request that the Government provide a comprehensive response to this Report.

It was agreed, - That a Press Release be issued.

It was agreed, on division, - That the Evidence from the meetings of the Standing Committee on Public Accounts scheduled to hear the testimony of Pierre Tremblay and Charles Guité be made public three years from the date of the meeting, if criminal charges have not been laid, or after all court proceedings, including appeals, if criminal charges are laid.

At 4:25 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
