The Standing Committee on Finance met in a televised session at 6:30 p.m. this day, in Room 237-C, Centre Block, the Chair, Maurizio Bevilacqua, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Sue Barnes, Carolyn Bennett, Maurizio Bevilacqua, Scott Brison, Roy Cullen, Ken Epp, Yvan Loubier, Sophia Leung, John McCallum, Hon. Lorne Nystrom and Joe Peschisolido.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Blayne Haggart and Marc-André Pigeon, Researchers; Marion Wrobel, Senior Analyst.

Witnesses: From the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade: Claude Carrière, Director General, Trade Policy Bureau I, Chief Negotiator, Free Trade Area of the Americas (FTAA); Fréderic Seppey, Deputy Director (Regional Agreements), Services Trade Policy Division; Jean Benoît Leblanc, Senior Trade Policy Analyst, Investment Trade Policy Division. From the Department of Finance: Charles Seeto, Director, Financial Sector Division.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee commenced consideration of the Free Trade Area for the Americas (FTAA) Negotiations.

Claude Carrière made a statement and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

At 8:06 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
