The Standing Committee on Finance met in a televised session at 3:30 p.m. this day, in Room 253-D, Centre Block, the Chair, Maurizio Bevilacqua, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Maurizio Bevilacqua, Sue Barnes, Roy Cullen, Ken Epp, Roger Gallaway, Albina Guarnieri, Yvan Loubier, Lorne Nystrom, Joe Peschisolido and Gary Pillitteri.

The Order of Reference dated Monday, April 23, 2001, being now read as follows:

ORDERED, -- That Bill C-22, An Act to amend the Income Tax Act, the Income Tax Application Rules, certain Acts related to the Income Tax Act, the Canada Pension Plan, the Customs Act, the Excise Tax Act, the Modernization of Benefits and Obligations Act and another Act related to the Excise Tax Act be now read a second time and referred to the Standing Committee on Finance.

The Chair called Clause 1.

Roy Cullen made an opening statement and, with the officials from the Department of Finance, answered questions.

Dan MacIntosh, Norman Loveland and Louis Chapdelaine made opening statements and answered questions.

At 5:30 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
