Meeting No. 36

Monday, February 21, 2000

The Standing Committee on Fisheries and Oceans met at 9:07 a.m. this day, at the Crowne Plaza Georgia Hotel, Vancouver, the Chair, Wayne Easter, presiding.

Member(s) of the Committee present: Sarkis Assadourian, Yvan Bernier, John Cummins, John Duncan, Wayne Easter, Lawrence O'Brien, Carmen Provenzano, Lou Sekora, Peter Stoffer.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Alan Nixon, Research Officer.

Witness(es): From the British Columbia Seafood Alliance: Michelle James, Executive Director. From the Ahousaht First Nation: Darrell Campbell, Manager; Joe Campbell, Band Manager; Sidney Sam junior, Fishery Committee. From the Kwakiutl Territorial Fisheries Commission: Pat Alfred, President; Victor Isaac, Vice President.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) the Committee resumed consideration of their study on Aquaculture.

The witnesses made statements and answered questions.

At 10:45 o'clock a.m. the sitting was suspended.

At 10:57 o'clock a.m. the sitting resumed.

Lou Sekora moved, - That the Committee travel to Alaska February 23, 24 and 25th to continue its hearings on Aquaculture and Aboriginal Fishing Strategy and that the necessary staff do accompany the Committee. After debate thereon the question being put on the motion, it was agreed.

At 12:15 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
