MINUTES OF PROCEEDINGS
Wednesday, October 15, 1997
The Standing Committee on Finance met in televised session at 10:07 o’clock a.m. this day in the Pacific Ballroom, Hotel Vancouver, the Chair, Maurizio Bevilacqua presiding.
Members of the Committee present: Maurizio Bevilacqua, Roger Gallaway, Dick Harris, David Iftody, Jim Jones, Yvan Loubier, Gilles A. Perron, Karen Redman, Nelson Riis, Monte Solberg, Paul Szabo, Paddy Torsney and Tony Valeri.
Acting Members present: Preston Manning for Gerry Ritz, Ted McWhinney for Gary Pillitteri.
Associate Members present: Odina Desrochers.
Other Members present: Sophia Leung, John McKay, Ray Pagtakhan and John Reynolds.
In attendance: From the ParliamentaryResearch Branch: Richard Domingue and Marion Wrobel, Research Officers.
Appearing: The Honorable Paul Martin, P.C., M.P., Minister of Finance.
In accordance with its mandate under Standing Order 83.1 the Committee commenced its Pre-Budget Consultation study.
The Minister made a statement and answered questions.
At 12:24 o’clock p.m., the Committee suspended its sitting.
At 1:30 o’clock p.m., the Committee resumed its sitting in camera to discuss its future business.
On motion of Paddy Torsney, it was agreed, -That the Committee meet on Bill C-2, An Act to amend the Canada Pension Plan as follows:

Paddy Torsney moved, -That the Committee retain the services of a media relations officer who specializes in public relations for the period of October 14 to 22, 1997 inclusive, and that the total value of the contract not exceed $6000.00. The media relations officer will undertake to provide support in all press relations necessary for publicizing the public hearings related to the Committee’s travel across Canada for its Pre-Budget Consultation Study.
After debate, the motion carried on division.
At 1:42 o’clock p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
